Description of the original vehicle: Although Mercedes entered four race cars of the Type W154 for the French GP, only three of them were allowed in the race. Being the No.4 driver of the team, Richard "Dick" Seaman did not have the good fortune to join the lineup.
Instead of participating in the race, the young Englishman did his part by successfully completing the task of test driving. Richard Seaman was well-known for his extraordinary ability to adapt to a new race car or track. The W154 training car he drove was marked with a red "T" on both sides. And there was also the red starting number 25 in the front, covering a part of the radiator grille.
The informations collected by "Dick" during test driving proved to be invaluable for his teammates Rudolf Caracciola, Manfred von Brauchitsch and Hermann Lang. Because the race ended with a triple victory for Mercedes.
